Dandelions Still Have Needs

Did you know dandelions can grow in all 50 states? They face the odds and still thrive. Of course, they still need water and sunlight.

“The Dandelion Club” will also need to face some odds and fulfill needs.

When exploring this idea, the MWR (Morale, Welfare, and Recreation), ACS (Army Community Services), and other leadership at Fort Belvoir graciously explained to me via two conference calls why they haven’t done this so far.

  1. Employment- This area has a very low unemployment rate. People just aren’t looking for jobs here. MWR is having a hard time staffing the services they already offer.
  2. Space- Space is at a premium on post. It takes a lot to gain something even as small as an office.
  3. Volunteers- If the space doesn’t employ but takes volunteers, the MWR could have difficulty getting enough volunteers for all their other initiatives.

These are legitimate concerns. I’m not taking them lightly. But our God is bigger and He’s the God who can make anything happen.

For the employment and volunteer issue, I believe that manning the indoor playspace just might be a job where some parents can simultaneously watch their kids and work at the same time.

It’s also a different ask to ask someone to volunteer by giving a few hours of their time to man an indoor playspace than it is to coach a little league team.

I’ll also state what might be obvious to some, I’m a military spouse and we military families move every few years. I could be in the middle of something and have to move, but still, I’m confident God will make a way and provide.

It’s God’s timeline. Again, who knows how long this will take to come into existence.

Could you pray with me that God will provide the right space and people for this to happen?
